Brooklyn Chest Hospital XDR-Unit
Brooklyn, Cape Town
MVA was appointed for the design of a 30-single bed ward unit for the treatment of drug resistant tuberculosis at the Brooklyn Chest Tuberculosis Hospital. The building consists of four separate pavilions separated by open, landscaped courtyard spaces. Three of the pavilions house the individual ward rooms for long stay patients and the fourth is the treatment centre and common space with dining facilities.
The roof of each pavilion is topped with a feature monitor that was researched and designed to maximise natural airflow in the unit as this is necessary for the treatment of TB.
