Cape Town Stadium

Green Point, Cape Town

MVA were part of the Point Architects consortium that came second in the competition for the design of the Cape Town Stadium for the 2010 FIFA Football World Cup. However, the judges were so impressed with the contextual design approach of the proposal that they elected to amalgamate it with the winning bowl proposal resulting in an iconic stadium for the city. The stadium had a capacity of 65,000 for the World Cup, which has subsequently been reduced to 50,000 seats. It is currently the home of Western Province and Stormers Rugby teams and Cape Town City football team. It also hosts many concert events.

MVA also assisted in the implementation of the designs for two smaller stadiums adjacent to the Cape Town stadium, these being an athletics stadium and the Green Point A-track, which hosts a local club rugby team.
