Hermanus House
Hermanus, Western Cape
A new house for an retired couple – one an engineer, the other an architect. This holiday home in the beautiful coastal town of Hermanus was designed and built directly over the foundations of a previous iteration. The house was conceived as a group of simple, barn-like, double pitched roofs supplemented and connected by mono-pitch elements.
This traditional design thinking was subverted and given a modern twist through the selection of materials and the manner in which openings were cut to frame and open out to incredible views of the surrounding mountains and the sea.
