Manhattan Precinct

Century City, Cape Town

The Manhattan Precinct is a mixed-use block in the heart of New Urban development, Century City in Cape Town, which followed on from the success of The Manhattan.

The precinct consists of a cluster of individual urban perimeter buildings including two residential apartment buildings, a commercial street edge at ground level, a kindergarten school and an office building with restaurant attached. These buildings are grouped around a now popular plaza and landscaped park space. Architecturally we strove to link the individual elements together and bed them into the site by a language of common materials and elements such as thick inhabited walls and punctured urban windows.

In addition to the common park and plaza space, the two residential buildings have ‘secret courtyards’ for residents to escape to.
