Zarina
Burgundy Estate, Cape Town
The brief for Zarina (which was named after a racehorse owned by the prominent Graaff family) was for a 181-unit blend of apartments and townhouses in a private residential development in the up-and-coming suburb of Burgundy Estate. The design focused a perimeter of two and three storey forms around a central common space, maximising north sunlight and south facing views of Table Mountain and Table Bay throughout the development.
Architecturally the forms are conceptualised as a series of barn-like forms, which are a contemporary nod to the historic agricultural function of the site.
